Shunned by Family?
Remember the movie titled 12 Years A Slave? Here’s a movie title: 13 Years An Outcast. Feeling shunned by family can make you feel like an outcast – especially during the holidays.
That’s the reality facing addicts and those who don’t manage their mental illness.
Their families can cut them off, shun them, and throw them out like dirty dishwater to avoid the hassle of drama, trauma, and broken promises.
My father used to say, “Even iron wears out.” So how much quicker can the human heart grow weary, break, and experience a disgust that just says, “I can’t with you.”
Clarity
People who discover ways to manage their mental health/addictions experience a moment of clarity. There are many moments of clarity but one is the realization that says, “I hurt them,” followed by waves of guilt and shame.
People who address guilt and shame find freedom. But for those who lack the insight, self-awareness, and support to usher them into freedom, face a future filled with denial and blame.
As the owner of Truly Restored Coaching Service, I lived as an outcast from both society, and my family.
The restoration process included forgiving myself, patiently doing the right thing without seeing any tangible rewards and building a healthier relationship with myself. Guided by my spirituality, I found freedom. Reunification with my family began with an invitation to a holiday meal after 13 year of being an outcast.
Miracle.
Miracles do happen. What started out as a long-desired hope, became a reality.
You can experience a miracle and change too. Maybe it will take longer than 13 years, or shorter, but what can happen in the meantime is a restoration to the man or woman God intended.
